A LITTLE BIT ABOUT EMILY

I believe that our relationships shape so much of how we experience ourselves and the world around us. I work with individuals, couples, and families to better understand the patterns that can leave us feeling disconnected, misunderstood, or stuck—and to create new ways of relating that foster greater safety, connection, and closeness. I have a particular interest in supporting individuals and relationships navigating ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Learning Disabilities.

My approach is warm, curious, and collaborative. I strive to create a space where you can feel understood while exploring the emotions, experiences, and relationship patterns that may be getting in the way of the connection you want with yourself and the people who matter most.

Why I am pursuing a career as a Marriage and Family Therapist

My path to becoming a therapist began with my own journey toward healing. Growing up with a parent who was severely mentally ill eventually helped me understand how our attachment history shapes the truths from which we operate, our beliefs about ourselves, and the patterns in our relationships. I also understand our adaptive and highly creative capacity to find tools to protect and defend from harm, and I have learned that those same tools can cause us pain and keep us isolated. What I offer my clients is a warm, unconditional acceptance. I work collaboratively, honoring each client's lived experience to identify and leverage strengths toward their stated goals.

I am aware that my journey, while not without obstacles, was paved by privilege and access. I recognize that aspects of my social location have benefited me at the expense of others through institutional oppression. I believe that every person is unique and multifaceted. I believe mental health is shaped by our families, traditions, culture, and intersecting identities. As an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and culturally humble therapist, I won't make assumptions about my client's experience. I recognize that my clients are the experts on their own lives, and my job is to learn and unlearn continuously so that my clients feel safe, seen, heard, and deeply understood in our work together.

Outside of the therapy room, I love traveling and enjoying the Colorado outdoors. You can often find me skiing or hiking with my husband of 16 years, our two children, and our dog, Luna.

To be understood is a profound comfort, and it’s the foundation of all true intimacy.
