Individual and Relationship Therapy Center (IRTC) is a well-established group private practice comprised of experienced and dedicated couples therapists. We consist of LMFTs, MFTCs and Interns. We are also fun, energetic and dedicated to our collective growth!

We feel fortunate to offer future therapists and therapists in training the opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience in a busy private practice through our Therapist and Counseling Internship program in Denver.

IRTC is a unique environment because we privilege the culture of our therapists and interns as much as we do the experiences of our clients. Our therapists genuinely enjoy being a part of a team and are self-motivated and hungry to learn. We offer our interns the possibility of officially joining our team full-time upon completion of the therapist and counseling internship in Denver.

Therapist interns work primarily with couples, individuals, non-traditional relationships and a small population of family clients. You will work alongside therapists who are certified (or nearly certified) in Emotionally Focused Therapy, highly trained in EMDR and advanced training in AEDP. The majority of our team consists of licensed therapists, however IRTC is founded on a model that invites pre-licensed therapists to join our team so they may work towards their career goals in a supportive and collaborative environment. We are most experienced in caring for the less experienced!

IRTC is actively dedicated to an inclusive, diverse and safe community for all of our employees, interns and clients. We encourage therapists of color and LGBTQ+ therapists to apply for this internship and when we have full-time openings.

We presently offer our clients the opportunity to experience therapy in English, French and Swedish. We welcome the opportunity to expand our services to include a Spanish-speaking therapist as well.

IRTC is also looking to expand our clinical offering to include therapists who specialize in working with sex, sexuality and gender-related issues. Though not required, this interest would be considered a plus!

As is required by most graduate schools, this marriage and family therapist internship is unpaid. However, you will be supervised by highly trained therapists, invited to participate in our group supervision and clinical team trainings and will have complete access to our 200+ book lending library.

The current counseling internship position in Denver requires the following availability:

  • a minimum of two consecutive semesters

  • weekday/evening and Saturday availability (exact schedule to be discussed with candidates)

  • appropriate availability to ensure notes, client engagement activities, clinical consultation and session planning are completed effectively

It is important to know that our practice is well established with excellent referral patterns. New interns and therapists build caseloads quickly which means the first few months are exceptionally busy. There is a lot to learn about the practice, working with clients and being a part of this team. Please only apply if this excites you!

A little bit about Individual and Relationship Therapy Center (IRTC): IRTC was founded by Laura Cross, LMFT. Laura spent the first 22 years of her post-college career working in sales and marketing in corporate America. When she changed fields and began to build her practice as a therapist, she quickly experienced the isolation and loneliness that accompanies private practice. Within two years, she began forming IRTC based on her vision of creating a practice grounded in a sense of community. She sought to create an environment where therapists can focus on providing exceptional client care while also learning and growing through daily interactions with other therapists in the office. She believes we all thrive when we have a sense of belonging in our community and works hard to ensure all IRTC therapists feel like they are an important part of this one.
